Internationally acclaimed violinist Ray Chen visited NYSO in 2012Internationally acclaimed violinist Ray Chen visited NYSO in 2012

The young and talented international violin soloist Ray Chen visited NYSO during the summer course to talk and play to us. During a Q & A session he was asked questions about the lifestyle of an international soloist. He also performed some unaccompanied Bach and Ysaye and ended his visit playing 3rd violin in a run through of Mendelssohn’s Octet together with the orchestra.

"I thought that the surprise of Ray Chen visiting was incredible! I will never forget that. He was inspiring and that really helped us especially as it was the day before the concert! I think that everyone still had the encounter with him spinning in their heads during the performance which improved the concert."  Matthew Crisp

Enrico Fagone was NYSO's soloist in 2012

NYSO was honoured to have the Italian double bassist Enrico Fagone as soloist in London as well as on tour, performing the Koussevitsky Concerto for Double Bass as well as a couple of Piazzola pieces. Enrico is a marvellous musician and a wonderful person, and was a great inspiration to our young musicians. It is unusual enough to hear the double bass as a solo instrument. However in Sorrento we had the pleasure of not only one, but two together in an unusual and highly entertaining arrangement of the famous Czardas by Monti for 2 double basses with the Principal Bass of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples!
